Forget working, you should be owning!

People with the amount of talent you have demonstrated so far usually own their own studios. You demonstrated skill in drawing environments, both non human and human based life forms. Now demonstrate strong writing and communication skills and you won't be needing to look too long for a job.

Charongess responds:

I would never want to own a studio lol. I'm not leadership material.

A+

Fantastic tenebrism effect. The attention to detail is amazing. Great sharp textures, especially on the bones and teeth. Very good work.

Charongess responds:

Thank you for teaching me what tenebrism means, and thanks for the compliment

way too much red

It's really hard to see the little guy. His skin is blending into the can and the soda. I would make the can and fizz a much darker shade than the gremlin since he's the focal point of this piece.

I want you to take it farther

It's amazing to find you so gifted at such a young age. However, I want you to push your skills to their limits. I noticed that you haven't drawn animals yet, so start drawing them. Also try to put multiple people into one work. Learn how to make backgrounds too. The only way you're ever going to get strong is if you are determined to do what you think is 'too hard'. That's not only true in art, but everything else.

Great 'animation ready' design!

These characters are animation ready. They have nothing interfering with their joints so they should be a breeze to articulate in Flash. The colors are bright and have strong contrast which really gives that illusion of life. A+

Amazing atmospheric perspective

Keep doing these wonderful landscapes. It's very rare to find artists who are able to draw worlds with believability. Great composition as well.

serenekitchen responds:

thanks for that encouragement :)

Don't be so hard on yourself

Nice isometric perspective, that's usually something beginners try to avoid doing.

serenekitchen responds:

Thanks for the positivity! i didn't know that doing isometric images was a really big challenge until i sat down to do it.

great style

I see 3 great paintings here in this one: 1.The sun and clouds 2. forest and animals 3. mountain and skier. As a rule of thumb, you should never put more than one 'thesis' in one drawing, otherwise the piece will lack focus. Think of your work as an essay because that's basically what it is! All art is an attempt to communicate an opinion!

UnderARock responds:

thanks for the review..its all stuff that my girlfriend loves, I dont really expect anyone else to 'get it'

A+

Let me tell you something. Ask any amateur what they hate drawing the most and the human skull is way up there. Not only is the skull well rendered but the careful design of the tear away really enhances the 'magic' of this work. Loving the detail on the hair too. On top of that, you have a figure on the lower right with interlocking arms (very tricky to do). Great work.

sucho responds:

yeah the skull was tricky but really fun to try and figure out how it would interact with the face above it. i wish i knew how accurate it really was.
i did have a photo reference for the figure at the bottom, and i'm trying to branch out and do more interesting body poses. definitely not cheating by tracing, or even just copying fully from the source image, but i've found it to be really helpful to look from real-life photos. really guerilla blurry stuff like over-exposed shots at parties and clubs. you learn alot about the human body from people bustin' moves. or trying to.

sorry, tangent

very bold style, it's so you!

Keep exaggerating those proportions like you did here. The 'anime' characters you have submitted lack that sense of 'expression' these whimsical takes of the human form have. Also note how the s-curves are far more stronger in these characters than your 'anime' characters. As any Art Teacher will tell you, stay the hell away from anime! We don't want you to end up being a second rate version of someone else. We want you to be a first rate version of yourself.
